Luxury E-Commerce

An online shop that sells. Not just one that exists.

E-commerce for premium and artisan businesses requires a different approach from generic online retail. The product photography has to be treated seriously. The product page layout needs to carry the weight of the purchase decision without a salesperson present. The checkout needs to be smooth enough not to lose the customer at the last moment.

The majority of e-commerce projects we review at the brief stage have the same problem: the design began at the homepage rather than the product page. The product page is where buying decisions are made. Every other page in the store exists to guide the visitor there. We begin there, design it thoroughly, then design outward — categories, homepage, basket, checkout — in that order.

For premium and artisan products, photography treatment is critical. We do not do photography directly, but we provide a detailed photography brief and art direction notes as part of every Luxury E-Commerce engagement — describing the lighting, composition, background, and colour treatment needed for each product category. Clients who follow the brief consistently see higher conversion rates on product pages.

The checkout flow is built to meet Italian consumer protection requirements for e-commerce (D.Lgs. 206/2005 and subsequent amendments). Required pre-contract information is displayed correctly, withdrawal rights are disclosed, and the necessary terms are linked at the right moments in the checkout process.

Payment integration covers Stripe and PayPal as standard. Cash on delivery and bank transfer can be added. For Italian businesses, integration with SumUp or Nexi is available on request.

Deliverable: full Figma design for all store pages, custom-built WooCommerce or bespoke store, product catalogue setup (up to 150 products at launch), payment integration, order management setup, and 90-day post-launch support.

In practice

An agriturismo in the Chianti hills launched their first direct booking system through a Luxury E-Commerce engagement. They had previously relied entirely on Booking.com and Airbnb. In the first full summer season with the new site, direct bookings increased 85% year-on-year, materially reducing commission spend.

A Montelupo ceramics artisan launched an international online shop. In the first quarter, 41% of orders came from outside Italy — customers reached through search who would not have found the business through any other channel.

Questions about this service

Which platform do you build on?
Primarily WooCommerce on WordPress for most projects. For higher volume, custom performance requirements, or specific functionality, we evaluate alternatives. We recommend what fits the catalogue and team, not what is easiest for us.
Can you migrate products from Shopify or another platform?
Yes. Product migration from Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, and most other platforms is included in the scope.
